Reaching Albania by plane is the fastest way. The only operating airport is the Tirana International Airport, the Tirana Nënë Tereza International Airport which is located in Rinas. Two more airports are expected to open by 2021, one in Kukës in the north, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan airport, and the other in Saranda in the south of the country.
Those departing from central-southern Italy are almost obliged to board their car on the ferry, but those arriving from the north can also choose to drive to Albania. There are two possible roads from the Italian border to the Albanian one: the shortest one runs along stretches of state road and stretches of highway, lasts about 11 hours and is 880k long. The longest one, on the other hand, lasts almost 15 hours, but it is an entirely motorway route, except for the last stretch of Montenegro.
The ferry is certainly cheaper than the plane, especially since you can bring your car with you and the best way to visit Albania is by car. Of course the journey takes longer, often you travel overnight and it is better to book a cabin. On board you can dine, spend time at the bar, watch TV and relax in the common areas or in your room.
